First Weekend of the County Championships - Report

The first weekend of the Staffordshire County Championships produced fantastic results for our club! Almost every swim resulted in a personal best time for the swimmer! 36 of our swimmers actually managed to achieve the challenging entry times—a superb achievement for our coaches, swimmers and parents!

In the Ladies 200 Free 12yr old Bethany Bakercame 1st with a Midland qualifying time and 14yr old Alice Holmes came 1st with a Midland qualifying time for not only the 14 yr old age group, but the senior and junior championships as well! 16yr old Kelly Ann Smith came 2nd with her Midland qualifying time. 16yr old Megan Coughlan added a silver medal to the total.
The men followed with the 200 breast. 11yr old Gabe Butler added a bronze medal to the total, and a Midland time, followed closely by Callum Aris in silver medal position for the 10 yr olds.

In the 100 back for the ladies, 16yr old Kelly Ann Smith came first with a National and Midland qualifying time. She also won the senior and junior finals. 17yr old Megan Coughlan added another gold medal to the total, and an easy Midland Qualifying Time.

In the mens 100 fly 13yr old Adam Lamb added another gold to the Chase total, and an easy Midland Qualifying time, so did 12yr old Joseph Kinsell. 14yr old Adam Silvester came second and 15yr old Ben Wood came 1st with a Midland Qualifying Time. He also came 1st in the Junior Championships and 2nd in the senior championships.

In the ladies 50m fly, 10yr old Kayleigh Ghent just missed out on a medal, coming in 4th place with a very strong swim. 12yr old Bethany Baker scooped yet another medal—this time a silver, Christie Ghent a gold in the 13yr olds, Hannah O’Brien a bronze and Alice Holmes a gold in the 14yr olds. Alice Holmes also came 2nd in the Junior Championships and 3rd in the senior championships, with a Midland Qualifying Time. 16 year old Kelly Ann Smith came 2nd with a Midland Qualifying Time. She was also in the finals, coming 3rd in the Junior Championships.

The boys 100 Individual Medley was next. Ben Wood came 1st in his age group, 3rd in the senior championships and 2nd in the junior championships. 13yr old Adam Lamb came 2nd, and so did 10yr old George Foster.
In the ladies 200m IM 14yr old Alice Holmes snared herself another gold medal, this time with another Midland time and a well earned National Qualifying Time. She also came 1st in both the senior championships and the junior championships. 9yr old Macy Curtis earned herself her very first county medal in this event—a bronze.

The last events of Saturday were the 800m and 1500m free. Yet more medals—gold to 14yr old Alice, 1st in the junior and overall championship with yet another Midland time! 12yr old Bethany Baker also came 1st, and 11yr old Victoria Egan 3rd. In the 1500m 15yr old Ben Wood got a midland time and a gold medal for his efforts, putting him in 1st place in the championships for both overall and junior. 14yr old Adam Silvester also came 1st with his own midland time, silver in the junior championships and silver in the overall championships! 12yr old Joseph Kinsell came 2nd in the 1500m, with his own Midland Qualifying Time.

The first event on Sunday was the male 400m IM. 12yr old Joseph Kinsell gained his midland qualifying time and a bronze medal, as did 13yr old Adam Lamb, but this time with a silver. 12yr old Reiss Seymour placed 3rd, together with 14yr old Adam Silvester who also got bronze.

In the next event, the female 200 backstroke, 16 year old Kelly Ann Smith had a superb competition, gaining her Midland Qualifying Time and her National Qualifying Time, a gold medal in her age range and two more golds—one in the Senior Championships and one in the Junior Championships. Megan added to the golds, achieving one in the 17 year olds.

Next the men's 100 free: Chase boys did well here—15yr old Ben Wood earned gold in his own age group, with a Midland and National Qualifying Time, a gold in the Junior Championships and a bronze in the senior champs. 14yr old Adam Silvester also got gold, with a Midland Qualifying Time. 13yr old Adam Lamb came 3rd with a Midland Qualifying Time, and 12yr old Joseph Kinsell also achieved a Midland Qualifying Time.

In the ladies 100m breast stroke 12yr old Zoe Foster medalled in gold position. Well done, Zoe!

Next was the male 200 fly. A midland time for 12yr old Joseph Kinsell, silver for 13yr old Reiss Seymour and bronze for 14yr old Adam Silvester. 15yr old Ben Wood stormed to victory, winning his age group, the senior championships and the junior championships. 2nd in the senior championships, and with his own gold medal for the 17+ age group was Gordan Swan.

The 50m back was next. Chase did brilliantly in this event. Kelly Ann Smith stormed to victory winning her age group, the senior championships, and the junior championships. She also qualified for the Midland Championships. In the 17 yr olds Megan Coughlan won gold, and also gained her MQT. 14yr old Alice Holmes won her age group, got her MQT and also came 3rd in the junior championships. 13yr old Christie Ghent added another medal to Chase’s total—earning herself a silver.

In the 50m free 10yr old George Foster swam away with yet another medal—this time a silver, and 11yr old Gabe Butler won his age group. Ben Wood easily got gold in the 15yr old category with a Midland Time and another gold in the junior championships. 14yr old Adam Silvester also added another medal to Chase’s total—this time a silver.

That was the end of the first weekend. What a successful championships so far!

Chase Swimming Club are participating in Sainsbury's Active Kids 2010. This presents a fantastic opportunity to collect vouchers for a range of additional equipment and experiences that gives our children the opportunity to learn new skills.
This is our first year collecting, and we want to take full advantage of Active Kids and hope we can count on your support!
You can collect Active Kids vouchers from Sainsbury's between 17 February and 8 June.

CHANCE TO TRAIN IN A 50m POOL

Chase swimming club have secured several sessions at the 50 metre pool at Coventry.

These sessions will be available on the following dates:
February 27th
March 27th
May 15th &
May 22nd

All sessions are 12:00 ~ 14:00

At Chase we have five teaching groups as well as our Competitive Junior and Senior Squads.

These range from the 'armband' beginners group, through beginners, improvers onto advanced swimmers.
