About Me

Biography:

Julia is a singer/songwriter from Staffordshire.

Julia first showed an interest in music at a young age. First picking up a recorder in primary school, she quickly progressed to the flute. After several years of playing the flute, she decided she needed a new challenge, and wanted to learn more contemporary music. Her next investment was an alto saxophone.

Although a keen musician, Julia was also showing signs of sporting talent, having been picked for both the district and county netball squads. Unfortunately her sporting commitments clashed with her musical ones and forced to make a choice, she chose her sport.

It wasn’t until after leaving school that Julia made a return to music. A friendship with singer/songwriter Will Hunt inspired Julia to return to her musical interests.

She enrolled on a two-year course at Walsall College to study popular music, choosing vocals as her first instrument. It was during this time that she met a group of like-minded musicians. After forming a close friendship with fellow songwriter Andrew Dugmore, they decided to form a band. Mogul Soul was born. After suffering numerous line-up changes and struggling with university commitments, the band decided to call it a day. They remain close friends.

Julia now plays the guitar and piano, and has a passion for music theory.
Approaching the end of her third year at Wolverhampton University, Julia chose song writing as her third year project.

Plans for the future

After finishing uni, Julia is planning to begin a PGCE in post compulsory education. She is hoping to return to Walsall College as a lecturer. She will, of course, continue writing songs.
